Prayer of each day
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth. Amen.
Novena to the Holy Spirit
Nine days to invoke the Spirit
Day 1
Longing for the Spirit
Like the apostles in the Upper Room, open your heart and long for the coming of the Spirit. Ask him to visit you and transform you.
Day 2
The gift of Wisdom
May the Spirit give you to savour the things of God and to judge all things in the light of his love.
Day 3
The gift of Understanding
Ask for light to grasp the meaning of the faith and to recognise God present in your life.
Day 4
The gift of Counsel
May the Spirit guide your choices and teach you to discern what is pleasing to God.
Day 5
The gift of Fortitude
Ask for the courage to remain faithful in trial and to bear witness to the Gospel.
Day 6
The gift of Knowledge
May the Spirit teach you to see the world and all creatures as gifts that lead to the Creator.
Day 7
The gift of Piety
Ask for a childlike heart that trusts in God as a child in its Father, in tenderness and prayer.
Day 8
Fear of the Lord
Not dread, but loving reverence that fears to wound the one we love. Ask for this reverence of heart.
Day 9
The fruits of the Spirit
Give thanks and ask to bear fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control.
